BRIEF REPORTS:

Ward 3 Traffic Summit with Mayor Williams.  January 28, 2001, 7:30-9:30 pm at Chevy Chase Community Center, 5601 Connecticut Ave.

SMD 3F07 vacancy.  Duane Fitzgerald of 3601 Connecticut and Todd Strauss of 3900 Connecticut have filed nominating petitions with the BOEE, which is certifying both candidates.  The election should be held at the ANC's next regularly scheduled meeting.

Forest Hills Playground.  Commissioner Maudlin:  The Friends have begun the enhancements including trees, better access and rebuilding the sand box.

2944 Chesapeake Street (BZA appeal #16764). Commissioner Maudlin: The BZA decided on December 4, 2001, that DCRA's building permit approvals for this 4-story house violated the Zoning Regulation limit to 3 stories and that the neighbor's appeal was not too late. The BZA agreed with ANC 3F that a developer's option to measure stories at the midpoint of the "front" of the "house" really refers to the front (and not, as Corporation Counsel argued on behalf of DCRA, to the rear of the house as seen from the front).  Written order to follow.

3901 Albemarle Street (ZC case #00-03).  Commissioner Wiss: The final order approving the application appeared in the DC Register of Nov. 16.   On November 17 and December 1  the developers started to clean up and restore the headwaters of Soapstone Creek.  This is a joint project with the community, Wilson High School, the Environmental Health Administration in DOH and the NPS. On December 5 the developers met on site with ANC, TNA and NPS representatives to button down details of tree preservation.

Burke School expansion proposal (BZA Application No. 16611).  Commissioner Kogan: The BZA at its public meeting on September 25 voted 4-0-1 to deny the application with written order to follow.

Grant Road Historic District application.  Commissioner Wiss: The HPRB heard the application on December 20 and is keeping the record open for 30 days.  The HPRB plans to vote on January 24.

Ad hoc Committee on Tree and Slope Protection Overlays.  Commissioner Wiss: The Committee first met on October 4.  On October 13, committee members toured an existing tree and slope overlay district in the Chain Bridge Road area of Palisades and spoke with an area resident about community work to establish and maintain that overlay.  The second Committee meeting took place on Oct. 22 (with Chain Bridge Road activists), the third on Nov. 12 with David Murphy of the NPS and the fourth on Nov. 26.  The Fifth Meeting will take place on January 21, 2002, at 7:30 pm.  Call 202-966-1310.
