ANC 3F RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED CLOSING OF A

PORTION OF A PUBLIC ALLEY IN SQUARE 2250 - S.O. O6-8516

WHEREAS: Ms. Corazon Alisuage filed an application January 17, 2006, with the Office of the Surveyor to close a portion of the alley located behind her property at 2750 Brandywine Street, N.W., Square 2250, Lot 831; and


WHEREAS: the alley is located within ANC 3F; and


WHEREAS: the application lists only Lot 831 as “Abutting Lots” but the drawing with the application also shows Lots 811 and 814 abutting the portion of the alley proposed to be closed; and


WHEREAS: the owners of abutting Lots 811 and 814 are opposed to the requested closing of the alley; and


WHEREAS: the application states that the portion of the alley to be closed is a “30' X 11'” section but the drawing with the application indicates that it is a 30' X 10' section; and

 

WHEREAS: the twenty-foot wide alley runs west from Broad Branch Road, has a 90̊ right turn, a 90̊ left turn and ends in a cul-de-sac used as a vehicle turn around approximately 660 feet from Broad Branch Road; and


WHEREAS: the alley serves as the only ingress and egress for six homes addressed on Broad Branch Road, N.W. and the primary ingress and egress for eight homes addressed on Brandywine Street, N.W. and Broad Branch Road, N.W.; and


WHEREAS: the alley is also used for mail and other deliveries, emergency services, trash and recycled pick up, gardeners, various service workers and visitors to the above residences; and


WHEREAS: the proposed alley closing would reduce the cul-de-sac area and severely restrict trucks and other vehicles that must use the alley;


THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT; ANC 3F respectfully requests and urges that the Office of the Surveyor recommend to the Council of the District of Columbia that the application be denied and the alley not be closed.

Approved by a vote of 7-0-0 at a duly noticed public meeting on April 10, 2006, with a quorum present.
