Res. 04-14
ANC 3F RESOLUTION REQUESTING INSTALLATION OF A SIDEWALK ON THE EAST
SIDE OF THE 4400 BLOCKS OF 36" STREET, NW TO COMPLETE THE SIDEWALK
BETWEEN YUMA AND ALBEMARLE STREETS, NW

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3F
North Cleveland Park Forest Hills Tenleytown
PMB #244, 4401-A Connecticut Avenue, NW
Washington, D.C. 20008

WHEREAS, the 4400 blocks of 36th Street, NW (from Yuma Street to Alton Place and from Alton Place to Albemarle Street) are within the boundary of ANC 3F; and

WHEREAS, 36th Street is heavily used, particularly by school age children attending the Sheridan School and those walking to the Metro; and

WHEREAS, the only complete sidewalk in the 4400 blocks is on the west side of 36th Street; and

WHEREAS,
36th Street is heavily traveled, with cut through automotive traffic; and

WHEREAS,
ANC 3F has been presented with a petition with 50 signatures representing 34 residences, including all the affected abutting residents on the east side of 36th Street. The petition states in part:
We, the undersigned, urge the DC government to pave a sidewalk for one block and one lot along the eastern side of 36th Street between Yuma Street NW to Alton Place, NW and then in front of 4417 36th St. NW. This would meet the existing sidewalk at 4419 36th St NW. Paving this sidewalk would increase the safety in this area which is used extensively by parents and children from Sheridan School    as well as by local residents walking to the nearby Metro; and

WHEREAS,
the Chair has also received a letter of support for the project from the Head of Sheridan School, which is located on the west side of 36th Street between Yuma Street and Alton Place,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
ANC 3F recommends the installation of a sidewalk along the uncompleted section of 36th Street, NW between Yuma and Albemarle Streets, i.e., along the side yard of 3545 Yuma Street and in front of 4411 - 36th Street and 4417-36th Street. As part of this effort the Commission also recommends the creation of wheelchair curb cuts where none exist presently.
