ANC3F RESOLUTION REGARDING APPLICATION FOR PUBLIC SPACE
PERMITFOR DRIVEWAY AT 2900 ALBEMARLE STREET

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3F
North Cleveland Park and Forest Hills
P.O. Box 39290, Washington, D.C. 20016-9290

WHEREAS:  The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) on April 4, 2002, received an application for a public space permit for the property at 2900 Albemarle Street NW; and

WHEREAS: The Department of Public Works agreed to withhold a decision on this matter pending receipt of ANC 3F’s recommendation following ANC 3F’s September 17, 2002, public meeting; and

WHEREAS: There are important public safety concerns with regard to locating the proposed driveway on Albemarle Street near the intersection of 29th Street; and

WHEREAS: These safety concerns stem from several factors including: (1) the proposed driveway would be located very close to an existing stop sign on Albemarle Street at the intersection of 29th Street; (2) this stop sign is located at the bottom of a hill and vehicles often fail to come to a full stop upon approaching the stop sign; (3) the location of the proposed driveway would require drivers exiting the 2900 Albemarle Street property to back out of the driveway and into the intersection of Albemarle and 29th Street; and (4) a number of neighborhood children frequently use the Albemarle Street and 29th Street intersection; and

WHEREAS: There are two existing driveways on this property, one on Albemarle Street and one on 29th Street.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: ANC 3F recommends that the applicant use an existing driveway located on the 29th Street side of the 2900 Albemarle Street property and that a new driveway cut not be approved.

Adopted September 17, 2002, at a duly noticed public meeting with a quorum present by a vote of 6-0-1.
