Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3F
North Cleveland Park and Forest Hills
P.O. Box 39290, Washington, D.C. 2016-9290
WHEREAS: Upton Street, N.W., between Reno Road and Wisconsin Avenue is a very narrow residential street with parking on both sides; and
WHEREAS: Westbound Upton Street has become a cut-through route for commuter traffic destined for southbound Wisconsin Avenue during the morning rush hour and is used as a cut-through route at other times of day as well, uses for which this small neighborhood street was not designed; and
WHEREAS: In the past, traffic signs restricting turns for westbound Upton Street at Wisconsin had been posted to discourage cut-through traffic, but these have disappeared; and
WHEREAS: The westbound lane of Upton Street at Wisconsin Avenue still has a "right turn only" arrow painted on the pavement that is faded and not clearly visible, although the traffic signal does not indicate that only right turns are allowed;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: ANC 3F requests that DDOT
determine what turning restrictions had been applied to this intersection,
and take steps to install the appropriate signs and lane markings.
