MPD Sponsored NLEOMF 5K Race To Remember

Posted by: "Marcello" Mmuzzatti@aol.com   dck9cop

Wed Oct 8, 2008 11:12 am (PDT)

On Sunday, October 19, 2008 the Metropolitan Police Department is
sponsoring a 5K race that will benifit the National Law Enforcement
Officers' Memorial Fund Museum Project. (www.nleomf.org) This race is
a 5K race that runs from the NLEOMF wall which is at 5th and E Street
NW and goes around the US Capitol and back. Please try to sign up for
this race as we have called it "Race To Remeber". The wall has over
18,000 names of law enforcemnt officers killed in the line of duty and
one way to honor them is in this race. Please go to www.nleomf.org and
click on Race To Remember. The cost is $25.00 per person. All proceds
go to the fund.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at
marcello.muzzatti@dc.gov

Thank You,

Marcello

Neighbors,

Last week I found a Lexus key at the corner of 45th and Van Ness across from
the tennis courts at Friendship Playground.

No key ring, just the key.

Call me at (202) 537-1372 if you think it is yours.

Kind regards,
Mav

New Fines

Posted by: "HR- Larry Weigle" lweigle@redcoats.com

I just picked up my dry cleaning at Wisc. Ave & Fessenden and shopped at
the Safeway for the last time.

The new fines for crosswalks have sent this 5th generation DC resident
to MD for shopping.

Lost in the debate over pedestrian issues is the unintended and harmful
consequence that "stop for pedestrians in cross walks" has had.
Neighbors are increasingly oblivious to their surroundings when crossing
the streets. Add to this the passive- aggressive pedestrian activists
who delight in mucking up traffic. We all see folks step off of the curb
without looking or regard to the signal timing, talking on cell phones,
reading, crossing in front of double parked trucks or buses into the
path of unsuspecting drivers, etc.

I'll bet that 95% of the injuries and deaths could have been avoided if
the pedestrians had been more alert and defensive when spending the 15
or 20 seconds crossing our streets.

If anyone really wants to reduce pedestrian injuries they should start
with.

1. Change the law - require autos to yield to pedestrian and re educate
folks to cross defensively, deliberately, and defer to approaching
autos.

2. Add stiff fines for J walking, crossing in the middle of the block,
and after the crosswalk sign has changed.

3. Adults with children J walking should be arrested and a child
protective agency called (This is more dangerous than leaving a child in
a car unattended)

4. Allow street crossing on major, four + lane, Avenues only at
controlled intersections. (We all need the exercise)

But if the heavy handed approach to autos is really about restricting
traffic and the "Carbon Thing" then by all means stick with what you
have.

I would like to recommend a contractor David Ochoa.  He renovated a bathroom in my house.  The renovation was a significant amount of work and the results are amazing.  He and his crew worked long hours and worked with my schedule, they cleaned up after themselves and gave some design suggestions that I am happy with.  You can contact me at 202-491-0385 (Erica) , I have pictures of the before and after.  David's number is 202-409-6921.
