You might give a call to the D. C. Humane Society and the Animal
Rescue League, because those are 2 places a frantic owner might
check. Ann Ingram

Help with Pepco

If anybody has any helpful and constructive advice on how to deal with PEPCO, I'd appreciate
letting me know. Here are the gory details: During a storm last Thanksgiving (!!!) a good part
of my oak came down, taking the power supply line with it. It was repaired pronto the
following week, but the final hook-up to the meter and the weather head has to be done by
PEPCO. I have emailed and called PEPCO's customer service department and their engineering
department many times to no avail. Telephone calls and emails are never returned. I have
actually gone to one of their customer service centers, however that turned out to be a
disaster since the person did speak such poor English that she could not figure out what I
was talking about. In the mean time my electric supply line is held up to the house by a rope
( I am not kidding). Again, any helpful advice is appreciated.

As a "rising" Deal parent who expects a 12-year-old to handle these
intersections, could you describe exactly what is wrong with the lights
at Chesapeake and Nebraska?

Also, my sense is that the traffic along Nebraska between Connecticut
and Wisconsin is routinely well above the speed limit. This might be a
good place for a speed camera, that will essentially calm vehicle
traffic, as has happened on Macarthur Blvd, Arizona Ave, etc.

Thanks, Rick

I agree with Rick that that typical Nebraska Avenue traffic speed is far in
excess of the safe and appropriate speed between Connecticut
and Wisconsin. This is a concern at all times, and not just when the school
session pulls children into are in the area between and Wisconsin and
Connecticut.

It also strikes me as a very good idea to have a speed camera in place as a
traffic calming measure.
Does anyone on the list know how to make it a formal proposal for
appropriate consideration?

You should work through your ANC and petition them to ask DDOT for a camera.  MPD would have to agree too, so attending a CAC meeting with the Commander of the Second District would be good.  Unfortunately, the next meeting of the CAC is in September on the 24th at the 2D station.  You can contact your Lt. for your PSA and attend a meeting with him/her to discuss the idea.  If you are in PSA 203, contact Lt. Ida George Houser at 715-7361.  For PSA 202, it would be Lt. Jimmie Riley at 715-7355.  He is on leave this week though, and she will be on leave next week.  Samantha Nolan

broken glass in alleys

I contacted Gilberto Solano (gilberto.solano@dc.gov) the Ward 3 Community Outreach and Services Coordinator and explained the problem of patches of broken glass appearing following recycling operations. He intends to contact the crew supervisor for my area (46th and Brandywine) and will welcome any other e-mails or phone calls (202 727-2287, or cell: 202 615-0087) indicating the location of any other such areas of glass shards in alleys or in the street.
