Starrytelling Festival   June 19, 20

Satrrytelling.com has more details:

Are you interested in stars, planets, sky, different cultures?
Come on June 19th for family experiences about the skies & other cultures' explanations
of the stars & planets.

Are you a teacher?
Are you a parent?
We have 2 workshops: 1) teaching through story telling
Unlike a lecture, storytelling is an act of co-creation between the 'teller and the listener.
That is why oral tradition was the main source of "knowledge management" for thousands
of years.
Storytelling is an effective communication tool and an economical type of outreach. Lynn
offers "tricks" of the storytelling trade with emphasis on storytelling for IYA.
We invite family educators from parents to museum and nature center guides.
The workshop will be complemented by hands on activities.

2) Find the Galileo in your students. This workshop gives you the astronomy concepts
and the hands on tools you can easily take back to the classroom. Get your students
excited about their personal discovery of the sky, the solar system and the stars. Learn
the night sky, constellations and visible planets while sitting in an inflatable planetarium.
Have fun!

Here is a further suggestion I received from the 911 Parrot Rescue
volunteer. She thought he would be able to catch the dove (in a humane
trap) and then possibly foster it, if its owner is not identified by
the # on the leg band:

I just checked out 911 Pigeon Alert's database. You may want to
contact the guy below to see if he can help with catching this bird.
He lives in Dundalk, MD, which is a little ways away, but he may be
able to help. I've contacted him before about another bird in the
past, and he was extremely nice and helpful.

families at 4527 Chesapeake and the opposite house have been watching
it and wondering whom to inform.

dog reunited with owners!

The very sweet honey colored medium size dog who showed up on our doorstep
last night has been reunited with her family. We took her to Friendship
Animal Hospital, they traced her microchip, contacted the owners, who came
by our house and picked up their dog.

-Kate

P.S. So the microchip worked. A cheaper alternative, a name tag with a home
phone number, would have worked also and would have been simpler for us. We
have resolved to make sure that our pets have current ID tags on them.

Kayak and Canoe Lessons

Posted by: "kathysmithindc" ksmith1804@starpower.net   kathysmithindc

Sun Jun 8, 2008 1:03 pm (PDT)

Tuesday Evening Canoe & Kayak Lessons and Picnic.

Beginner kayak and canoe lessons are held every
Tuesday evening throughout the summer from
6:30 to 8 pm at Fletcher's Boat House off Canal
Road (www.fletchersboathouse.com). The lessons
are in the canal, not the river.

A communal picnic follows. Bring an item to share
if you want to participate in the picnic.

The class covers kayaking/canoing at all levels
but is aimed mainly at the novice.

Note: Canal road is one way going West out of
Georgetown from 3-7 pm weekdays. You can also go down
Reservoir to where it ends at Canal Road. Be careful
crossing Canal Rd. at this point.

Cost for canoe, paddle, life jacket, and lessons
is a measley $4/person. Kids most welcome and FREE.

The classes are sponsored by the Park Service;
the Canoe Cruisers Association (CCA) provides the
instructors. (www.canoecruisers.org) The CCA also
conducts other classes, including whitewater and
whitewater rescue.

To participate in the Tuesday evening classes, please
contact Jim Finucane 301-365-3485 before 9 pm or jim.finucane@yahoo.com.

Natalie, D.C. is very good about picking up large trash items (dishwashers, sliding glass doors and other such things) so I would expect they will take your carpet away.? You need
to call 727-1000; they will give tell you where to put your things and which day the truck will come by. It really worked for me. S. Kranz
