Sign on to oppose another huge subsidy at the expense of real reside

Mayor Fenty and the Council are considering a proposal to use $150
million or more in public funds to subsidize a soccer stadium along the
Anacostia. The issue is not one of liking sports, but of who pays. DC
needs all the public money it can get to achieve the goal of a healthy,
energy efficient, livable city.

Polls show a majority of DC residents oppose subsidizing a soccer
stadium, just as residents opposed public financing for a baseball
stadium. Please help voice this opposition to the DC Council and Mayor.
The Council and Mayor are nervous about the soccer proposal because they
know that the public would rather see taxpayer funds put toward better
services for residents than to subsidize professional sports, especially
at a time when the city is facing tremendous budget restraints.

An online petition to oppose subsidizing a soccer stadium has been set
up by Friends of the Earth. Sign on as an individual or organization
by going to http://action.foe.org/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=1251
<http://action.foe.org/petition.jsp?petition_KEY=1251>

PLEASE SIGN ON TODAY!

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO FRIENDS, NEIGHBORHOOD LISTSERVES, AND OTHER
NETORKS

Parents - a safer way for your kids to Surf the Internet

Recently a new web site has started and is specifically designed for
children ages 3 - 12. It is called KidZui. The web link is
http://www.kidzui.com/.

For years parents have been put in the position of having to try to monitor
where their children go when they are using the computer and surf the
internet. This web site is designed to limit the type of web sites that can
be entered and the contend is age appropriate. As safe as this web portal
is, this does not eliminate the parent monitoring, however, a parent should
feel a little more relaxed that if the software that sets this portal up on
your computer is done properly, you should feel more comfortable that the
risk is lowered about the Unsafe sites your children might get into.

PS. For those who need the other web stuff, there is a way to over-ride the
settings.

Here is a link to an article about the site (and software) from when it
first started in March ...

IT IS NOW FREE

white dove

A beautiful white dove has been seen in the 46th St/Chesapeake St. neighborhood for several weeks - it looks very forlorn and has clearly been cared for, it has a band with the number 316 on its leg. The families at 4527 Chesapeake and the opposite house have been watching it and wondering whom to inform.
