Councilmember Cheh is leading a bike tour of Ward 3 that will focus
on issues related to trees on Saturday, May 31st at 10 am. The
riders will meet at Wisconsin Avenue and Albermarle Street, NW next
to the east exit of the Tenleytown Metro station. The tour will last
for approximately 6 miles with stops for discussion on topics such
as dead or missing trees, trees and power lines, tree planting, the
need for residential stewardship of trees, and informational
resources for residents who care about trees.

All participants are encouraged to wear a helmet and bring a bike
lock.

If you'd like to participate or for more information, please contact
Jim McCarthy 202-362-7614.

We look forward to seeing you there.

We have a great roofer...have known him for 20 years and used him
both for our home in AU Park and a weekend home in Rappahannock
County. His name is Dave Roberson, and you can reach him on his cell
phone, 301-502-7777.

Support for Solar Energy in DC

Next week, Ward 3 Council Member Mary Cheh's Committee on Public
Services and Consumer Affairs will be considering an important bill for
development of solar energy in the District. The Clean and Affordable
Energy Act of 2008 (B 17-492) contains a number of provisions that will
place greater emphasis on developing local solar generation resources and
will reduce the costs for residential solar installations. This is significant legislation for anyone concerned about reducing greenhouse gases and considering a move to solar power. An earlier version of the bill is on the Council's website at
http://www.dccouncil.washington.dc.us/images/00001/20071108120109.pdf,
but a number of improvements have been made.

Please contact Kimberly Frank (kfrank@kayescholer.com) if you want a copy of the latest version. You may express your support for this bill by emailing the members of the committee: Council Member At Large Kwame Brown
(tellkwamebrown@gmail.com), Ward 1 Council Member Jim Graham (jim@grahamwone.com), Ward 8 Council Member Marion Barry (mbarry@dccouncil.us), and Ward 6 Council Member Tommy Wells (twells@dccouncil.us). Council Member Cheh hopes the Council will pass the bill before it adjourns in July, and it is important to marshal support from all the Council.
