Will the next person who is ticketed by this aggressive woman be sure
to get her name and badge number and post them for others of us in
the neighborhood? Thanks, Wendy Maiorana

Saturday, May 17, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.
Creating and Maintaining a Beautiful Sustainable Garden, presented by D.C. Urban
Gardeners and the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.

Master Gardener and local gardening coach Susan Harris shows how to create a
beautiful garden scheme—naturally--by choosing plants that require no
pesticides, very little supplemental water and less work. Using stunning
visuals, Harris demonstrates ways to incorporate shrubs, trees and perennials
into a beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor space that uplifts the spirit and
protects the environment. You’ll also learn how to have a great lawn without
toxic herbicides and artificial fertilizers.

LOCATION: Historical Society of Washington, D.C., at Mt. Vernon Square, K
Street NW between 7th and 9th streets. Accessible from Chinatown and Convention
Center Metro stations.

Reservations (not required, just appreciated) via RSVP@historydc.org SUBJECT:

Follow-up from Aggressive Ticketing Warning

Posted by: "pmc20015" pmc20015@yahoo.com   pmc20015

This morning I spoke with Lt. Lindsey of the Second
District PSA 202. She had emailed me and asked me to
contact her about the complaint I posted on the
listserv. When I gave her the badge # of the officer
who ticketed me, she told me the following: Lt Lindsey
is this officer's supervisor and she has received
countless complaints about how gruff and unpleasant
she is. (I still don't know her name.) She said that
this officer is just like that and that she won't
change even though she has been sent to numerous
workshops on dealing with the public, etc. She also
said that it is police policy not to engage in any
conversation with the person who is pulled over but to
just state what the offense is and to ask for a
driver's license and registration. Finally, she
explained that even though this officer has a
reputation for coming across in a very negative way,
she is an excellent enforcer of the traffic laws in
our neighborhood and so she has decided to leave her
on that job. That's the story.

Meanwhile, I have to make a court date so that I can
go and contest the ticket. She said that since it was
a first offense, I'll just be given a warning. The
moral of the story (for me) is: Don't break any
traffic laws in our neighborhood and hope that the
officer with badge #2653 doesn't mistakenly accuse me
of breaking a traffic law.

interesting in this issue, I have been seeking efficient ways to cool our
attic room and upper floors for several season and been unhappy with the
suggestions given by our a/c heating provider. Thanks. Donna DeSilva

I have placed the following items in the open doorway of my garage for anyone to take -I'll leave them there through the weekend. Please help yourself - you'll spot the stuff if you walk the alley behind my house, 4311 Chesapeake Street. First come, fist take!

two working gas lawnmowers
a small charcoal grill
a Havahart racoon size trap
a car rack
a garden wheelbarrow
an electric bugzapper
a fish tank and all necessary fish stuff
A safety First child gate
A toddler swing
A crazy car
A red leather chair on wheels
antique fake fruit!

On 4-22 I wrote"Our dog (Bear)used to eat the mail that came thru the
door slot. We put a mailbox on a post. Bear is gone. The box and post
are free to anyone who wants them. If interested, just pull up the box
and post and take them away."

It's still there. On May 5 it goes to bulk pick-up.

Other People's Garbage

Posted by: "Jillaine Smith" jillainedc@yahoo.com   jillainedc

Wed Apr 30, 2008 6:24 am (PDT)

This last weekend, I was taking out some trash (our trash is behind us
in the alley) and noticed that someone had dropped about 10 large
hefty bags of what appear to be yard waste next to our single trash
bin. While annoyed, I figured I'd wait until trash day to see if the
bags would be picked up.

Trash day was Tuesday; I took out garbage this morning, and not
surprisingly, all ten or so hefty bags were still there. My sense is
that the garbage folks won't take extra trash. If it were one or two
bags, we could probably incorporate it into our own trash-- we don't
generate a lot of our own, and frankly, if someone periodically needs
to use someone else's empty trash can, I don't mind. But we can't
handle ten bags in one fell swoop.

I do not know who in my neighborhood did this-- we're all doing a lot
of spring clean-up in our yards this time of year. But I think it's
pretty tacky to dump one's garbage at someone else's house, expecting
them to deal with it.

Any suggestions for me?
