Recommending Happy Tiger Kabob

Thinking that Happy Tiger Kabob, a couple of doors down from Krupin's, was just a fast food
joint, we had not gone in. However. we ended up trying it a couple of weeks ago, and it was
excellent. Although you do go up to the counter to order, the food was made to order and
was very well spiced and cooked. The prices were reasonable and there were very nice
unexpected extras, like broiled tomatoes, etc.

Kathy:-

In one of my periodic (and you will understand, fully justified) rants,
I'd like to warn everyone in this neighborhood about a traffic warden I
will refer to (since I am from Liverpool, home of The Beatles) as "Lovely
Rita". (Lovely Rita, meter maid.....etc).

She appears to specialize in praying on legitimate and devoted nannys,
local and vital tradespeople, gardeners, and visiting family members in
the Veazey Street neighborhood.

She is especially active seconds after 9.00am (in other words, exactly 2
hours after the 7 a.m. start kicks in for green-bay parking zones). She is
particularly zealous if you have an old parking permit badge displayed in
addition to the current one (I got a $15 fine for showing an old one in
addition to the new one outside my house because I could not remove the
adhesive and neither could the guy at the inspection station.)

Later, a nanny with Maryland plates who stayed overnight to look after our
kids was fined one minute after the 2-hour deadline - a clear case of DC
City opportunism.

"Lovely Rita" is from Dept. 15, Badge 00186.

I understand these employees have jobs to do, but sometimes the way they
do them is a reason why so many decent and law-abiding people give up on
the district and move to the suburbs.

Carpenter Bees

Of course a pest control person will say they're destroying your house. Here's what's in "Wikipedia:"
"Since the tunnels are near the surface, structural damage is
generally minor or nonexistent. A building at Cornell University
possibly containing nests since the early-1930s, with very heavy
nesting between 1966 and 1995, is still sound in 2006.[citation
needed] Carpenter bees can be important pollinators on open-faced
flowers, even obligate pollinators on some, such as the Maypop
(Passiflora incarnata), though many species are also known to "rob"
nectar by slitting the sides of flowers with deep corollas."

We had repeated problems with carpenter bees (they seemed to drill holes in our house every season) and we finally called Western Pest. Not only did they do a good job, but they also explained that the bees can nest deep inside the wood frame of your house, destroying the structure, much as termites do. So it doesn't sound as if "live and let live" is the right policy for carpenter bees.

We are getting estimates from painting companies. Would like to hear comment from anyone who has used University Painters or Tenleytown Painters. Thanks.
