We have also learned to coexist peacefully with our
carpenter bee friends. They rarely do structural
damage or sting (males can't and the females are too
busy working!) And as Kathy said, they are fabulous
pollinators.

carpenter bees

We had repeated problems with carpenter bees (they seemed to drill holes in our house every season) and we finally called Western Pest. Not only did they do a good job, but they also explained that the bees can nest deep inside the wood frame of your house, destroying the structure, much as termites do. So it doesn't sound as if "live and let live" is the right policy for carpenter bees.
