The ANC 3E Special Committee is
sponsoring a community meeting with
the developers (we have asked all three to attend) who have
submitted proposals responding to the RFP for the Janney School land
sale. The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 6th at 7:00
PM in the undercroft at St. Ann's Church. The entrance to the
undercroft (faces Wisconsin Avenue) is to the left of the main
entrance stairs to the church, use the walkway and look for a sign
on the door.
This community meeting is in response the Thursday, February 28th
meeting that the DMPED-sponsored. That "community meeting"
censored audience questions, prohibited developers from revealing
relevant financial information about their proposals, allowed
developers to present unverifiable and misleading information, and
did not permit developers to distribute handouts about their
proposals. The ANC 3E Special Committee supports the concept of
providing a community meeting whereby citizens can ask questions
freely and obtain responsible relevant information in order to make
a more informed opinion. Good government depends on the free
exchange and discussion of information that will lead to better
decisions.
Furthermore, the ANC 3E Special Committee is asking the DMPED to
extend the comment period from 8 days to the more appropriate and
customary 30 days required in order to allow citizens and the
affected ANC Commissions to review the information, ask questions
and provide feedback. It is unfortunate that the 8 day time period
ends before either the ANC 3E or ANC 3F will have their regularly
scheduled monthly meeting and thereby precludes an official ANC
response. Please join us in urging that the comment period be
extended to no less than 30 days by sending a note to the
following: Deputy Mayor Neil Albert, Mayor Fenty, Council Members
Cheh, Brown, Schwartz and Council Chairperson Gray.

You may also submit questions or comments about the proposals to the
Office of Planning and Economic Development at

. The developers' presentations were supposed
to be posted on the website
http://tenley-janney.blogspot.com,
but
as of 1PM on March 1st they weren't posted.
