Hot-water heater replacement

Does anyone in the neighborhood have any experience (good or bad)
replacing a conventional hot-water heater with a tankless water heater
(which heats water on demand so that you never run out of hot water)?

I strongly support the idea that this is a situation where repeated false alarms should be fined. Each subsequent fine increased to a level where the owner does do something about it. Had acquaintances that lived in such a neighborhood sometime ago and they did take matters into their own hands about the offender. I do NOT recommend the solution, no condone their action, but it did work.

Janney Players present Damn Yankees February 22nd and 23rd

The Janney Players present "Damn Yankees" February 22nd & 23rd
Are you ready for baseball? Nothing could get you in the mood for the
season more than seeing the Janney Elementary School Players as they
present "Damn Yankees," a devilish musical comedy set during the 1950s
in Washington, DC. This Broadway Musical has charmed audiences for 50
years, and this year, the Janney Players become the underdog Washington
Senators (with under-worldly powers), as they chase the New York
Yankees for the Pennant. Will they be able to stop the Yankees from
their domination of the League?
The shows are Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday,
February 23rd, at 2:00 p.m. at Deal Middle School, 3815 Fort Drive NW
(just off Nebraska Avenue). Tickets are $5 for general seating. There
is free, but limited, parking at Deal. Refreshments will be sold
during intermission.
Bring the whole family and have yourself a ball as you watch the Janney
4th, 5th, and 6th graders put on another terrific show. You might even
want to show up in your Nationals gear to really get yourself in the
spirit!

Where to donate window AC units?

From: watsaint@starpower.net

A year or so ago, someone posted in the community newsletter contact
information for an organization to which to donate window AC units.
Does anyone know the name of the organization, or of any similar
charitable organization?

What did the residents do? If it was effective, maybe that's
the way to go with these situations?

That's an interesting approach, in theory, but let's spin it out.

Scenario 1: Instead of calling the police I go over to offer "A little neighborly pressure" and it turns out the house is, in fact, being robbed. And the burglars are armed.

Scenario 2: Instead of calling the police I go over to offer "A little neighborly pressure" and while I am walking around in my neighbors yard with his burglar alarm going off, another neighbor has called the police. The police show up, and I'm standing there -- a person who is not the homeowner -- with the burglar alarm going off.

While this burglar alarm was going off last week, I went to get a haircut. I asked the barber what he would do and he said, "When I came to this country, they told me one thing, 'Don't take the law into your own hands.'" Pretty good advice.

The insulation in our attic is c. 1926, and we need to replace it. Has
anybody had good experience with insulation installation contractors?

Thanks in advance.

False alarms -- talking to neighbor

I think Erik's suggestion is referring to the time when the
neighbor finally comes home -- after the police have come
and verified that it's a false alarm.
