In response to Jeffrey Modell's inquiry, I wanted to note that we have no
problem with our water pressure and we too are on AU side of Tenley Circle,
off Nebraska on 43rd and Warren Street NW.

Water Pressure in Tenleytown

We have also have low water pressure. But I only noticed it recently. I
have not had it tested.

Last year we had a problem with iron in the water. When we filled the
bathtub, the water was murky and reddish-brown, even with a filtering system on the
house. After calling my neighbors to see if they were having similar
problems, I called WASA. They came to check the water at my house and then along
the street (off Nebraska, downhill from AU, in Spring Valley). They discovered
that a valve was not opening when they were flushing the pipes along this
area, so our area was a dead end in the system and was not getting flushed out.
They were attentive to the problem and it got fixed in a few weeks or so.
This was last spring. Water pressure was not a problem at that time.

I wonder if there is a new call on the water system. Could it be a leak?
Maintenance on the water system infrastructure in DC lags discouragingly
behind need, it seems to me. However, they were responsive to the problem in my
neighborhood last year when I presented them with specific information.

It is not a water pumping system. City water flows because the supply of water is held in a high place. Then the natural tendency of water to seek its own level is what forces the water into your house and out through your faucets.

If you are near Nebraska Ave you are in a relatively high location relative to the water supply at Fort Reno. I would guess that this is part of the reason for the low pressure.

Check with your neighbors. Maybe there's a problem at your house. I
live near the top of the hill (about the highest place in DC) and have
plenty of pressure.
