Our mother passed away back in July and she left us more artwork
(eclectic prints, mirrors, drawings, and paintings), books, jewelry,
rare statues and masks, and exquisite dishes, lamps and household
items (both classic and contemporary.)

We are opening our doors exclusively to the Chevy Chase/Friendship
Heights/Tenleytown neighborhood that she loved You can take this
opportunity to browse and purchase some wonderful rare, eclectic, and
unique items that she some how managed to bring home from all over the
world.

We the family really want to see the items she cherished in the homes
of people who will truly appreciate them. And keep them in the area
that she was proud to call her home. Much of the items we have
photographed and can be viewed at the following website:

2D MPD CAC Members and Friends -- Below is a listserv posting of a
notice from Ass't Chief of Police Diane Groomes, indicating that all
police related calls should now be made to 911 (with 311 now being
used for the Mayor's Customer Service Requests). Previously, 311 was
used for "non-emergency" police calls.

Ass't Chief Groomes has confirmed that the policy change went into
effect on Monday, January 14th, and has indicated that there will be a
broader public dissemination of the new policy next week.

Nigel is a handsome, sleek brown tabby, front declawed, who was rescued from
a local kill shelter that gets so many nice cats that adoptions can never keep
pace. He is just the sweetest cat and wants nothing more than to crawl onto
your lap and keep you company. He deserves a home where he will be treasured!

Residents, Merchants: Please Remember to Shovel Your Sidewalks When

Posted by: "Lyons, Nancee (DPW)" Nancee.Lyons@dc.gov

Residents, Businesses Urged To Clear Snow/Ice from Sidewalks, Entrances

DPW Encourages Citizens to Help Others Unable to Shovel

The Department of Public Works (DPW) urges District residents and
businesses to clear their sidewalks, sidewalk entrances, nearby catch
basin openings, and the area surrounding hydrants of snow, sleet and ice
to prevent injury to pedestrians. DPW also asks businesses to make sure
the handicap ramps located at intersections are clear of snow and ice.

"After a snowfall, we get many complaints from pedestrians who are
having difficulty traveling because so many residents and business
owners don't clear their sidewalks," said DPW Director William O.
Howland, Jr. "I want to remind residents that DC law requires all
property owners to clear snow, sleet or ice from the walkways
surrounding their property within the first eight hours of daylight
after a snow storm ends."

While DPW does not have the authority to issue tickets to residents for
failure to remove snow from sidewalks, the agency can and will enforce
this law with commercial property owners. The main goal however, says
Howland, is to educate both residents and business owners about their
responsibilities during a snow event and to encourage them to be good
neighbors.

"When I was a kid, we made a little extra money shoveling snow and
helped our elderly, ailing, and frail neighbors," Howland said. "It's
important to establish and maintain a sense of community in our
neighborhoods.

"Many communities have developed lists of those willing to shovel snow
for neighbors who are unable to shovel on their own," Howland continued.
"I encourage all communities to identify those in your neighborhood who
are willing to provide this service so that our sidewalks are safe and
passable for all."

For more information about how the District handles snow events, visit
DPW at www.dpw.dc.gov on the Internet.

House cleaner needed

Posted by: "myboybuddha" myboybuddha@yahoo.com   myboybuddha

Thu Jan 17, 2008 12:11 pm (PST)

Hi all --
I live near Friendship Heights metro and looking for a good
housecleaner to work Friday mid-mornings. My current cleaner is only
available after 3pm and she often ends up working past my daughter's
bedtime (no fun having guests on Fridays with the cleaner vaccuming).
Ideally, I would like to have two or more people working together but
one person is ok as long as she/he can work mid morning on Friday.
Thanks and I look forward to your recommendation.

Extra Safety Measures in the Snow...

Residents and businesses owners should use salt and non-clumping kitty
litter on walkways, steps and other areas to help melt ice and snow, and
to gain traction.
