Just wanted to let people know how effective calls to 3ll are. Last week,
walking my dog from Fort Bayard onto 46th Street where I live near the other
end of the block toward Ellicott Street, I noticed pieces of shiny plastic
scattered on the street near the first parked car. I walked out onto the
street and saw that all the side view mirrors on each car had been smashed.
No other damage was visible on the cars.

Since my car was one of those with a smashed mirror, I called 311. Within
the hour a police officer arrived and took down all info related to my car
and gave me a report number. I called another neighbor who also called 311.
Another office arrived shortly and made a report on all the cars (unlike the
first who said he could only take my report).

I'm sure we'll never know who smashed the windows, but it was obviously
vandalism. The mirrors looked like they'd been smashed from the top down
and there was no other side-swiping type damage. But, it was reassuring
that the police arrived so promptly are keeping track.
