Just some tips for anyone who still has their energy audit coming up:

- after the inspector finishes up the audit, be sure to turn your water
heater back from the "vacation" setting;

- and, after a reasonable amount of time, check to see that the water is
running hot! Looks like when the inspector did our blower test it may have
extinguished the pilot light on the boiler.

(also not a bad idea to make sure that your heat/cool inspection service
agreement is up to date, if you have one of those)

Hope that helps someone else avoid cold showers!

Other than that, the audit was very thorough - our inspector was here for
four hours and had lots of helpful tips, even before we get to see the
official report.

For those who don't already own a copy of Judith Beck Helm's wonderful
book, Tenleytown, D.C.: Country Village to City Neighborhood, I would
like to recommend it. The hardcover, richly illustrated volume is
available at Politics and Prose on Connecticut Avenue or directly from
Carolyn Long, carolynlong@earthlink.net. The price is $39.95 plus
$2.30 tax.

Hope that you all have wonderful new year!

AU Park: Sweet ginger bullseye tabby + silver tuxedo ISO quiet lovin

See their pictures! So adorable!
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/pet/521738137.html

Jake is a spectacular ginger bullseye tabby with a coat of dramatically
marked swirls. His beloved pal Corey is a handsome silver tuxedo. These boys were
rescued from an outside colony when their caretaker relocated. They are seeking
a quiet, adult home with someone willing to accept these cats as the sweet
low key boys they are! They can be shy at first but once they come out of their
shells, Corey will roll over and quietly purr just to have his belly rubbed!
Jake will chat up a storm and loves to play with his fish-on-a-string! They
both think Temptation treats are the cats meow! They are ultra sweet and would do
well in a home with other cat-friendly cats. Neutered, tested, and completely
up-to-date on vaccinations.

WHEN: Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at 1pm.

Residents and Community Leaders are welcome to attend.
Operation Just Fix It
365 Days of Constituent-Focused Problem Solving

In order to make a problem-area clean, safe and sustainable for
residents, it is important that the community be involved in
improving the area. "Operation Just Fix It" is Mayor Adrian M.
Fenty's multi-agency initiative aimed at abating areas where crime,
blight and compliance issues require participation from more than
one DC Government agency. "Fix Its" usually cover a 2-3 block radius
and are aimed to improve the quality of life for residents,
businesses and patrons.

Mayor's Office of Community Outreach and Services (MOCRS) work with
residents to identify and prioritize problem areas in a given ward.
MOCRS then coordinate the efforts of the other District Government
agencies on its Core Team to develop a multi-coordinated agency
strategy designed to solve the problems and assign agency resources
needed to abate these issues.

Through Mayor Fenty's "Operation Just Fix It" programs, the Mayor's
Office of Community Relations and Services works hands-on with other
agencies to bring remedy to such problem areas.
