Mail delivery

In addition to receiving our mail as late as 10 pm, we get other peoples' mail
at least three days a week. Like the other poster, I went to the post office
intending to complain, but the clerk was so monumentally rude I couldn't even
bring myself to ask for the manager. She went in back ostensibly to fetch my
parcel and took a 10 minute coffee break-- I saw her throw her cup and food
wrappers in the garbage. They used to have complaint forms but they are no
longer provided.
And to top it all off, we received a printed note from (supposedly) our mail
carrier requesting a Christmas bonus and providing his home address. Are public
servants allowed to solicit "tips" ?

I'm afraid I have to put my two cents in here as well. Our mail is
usually not delivered until after 7:00pm. My experience when I was
applying for a passport was awful. Both clerks that I worked with were
extremely rude, to the point where I got up and left. I ended up
applying for my passport in the Bethesda Post Office on Wisconsin Ave.,
where the clerks could not have been more polite or more helpful. What
can we do about this?

For all the complaints about our Post Office, my son's wallet - that
disappeared 2 days ago - just arrived in an envelope that was addressed by
the PO.

Our carrier's best guess is that someone put the wallet into a mailbox.
When picked up, a postal employee at Friendship referred to the ID and
handwrote my son's name & address using an envelope with a PO return
address, the post office provided the postage, and his wallet was on its way
to him. The wallet had all of his ID, only the cash was missing.

Think of all of the time and cost involved in replacing a school ID,
driver's license, bank card, smart card, etc. that was saved. He's quite
pleased with the service!

We also get mail that is not ours at least 3 times a month. If the letter is
not junk mail and the address is within a few blocks of us I deliver it. I
have been on the end of receiving mail for us that was put back in the slot for
the mailman and we got it three weeks later. Pkokus.

Was it "Washington Gas & Energy Services" ? You can lock in a fixed price for your natural gas for 1 year or 2 years via www.wges.com/ --

For the current fixed rate, see:

http://www.wges.com/gas/res/new.php?ldc=WGD

For the current (and historic) variable rate, see:

http://www.wges.com/gas/res/new.php?o=variable_track&ldc=WGD

If you think the price of natural gas is likely to rises above one of the fixed-rate contract prices, you may want to consider buying in.

Best regards,

>Just before we left for Thanksgiving, a man came to the door with a
Washington Gas & Light hat and ID. I also saw some gas bills in his
folder. He said he was here to see if I qualified for some fixed
price gas plan, but to verify he needed to see my latest gas bill. I
told him I was all set and he left. After he left, I thought that if
he was from the gas company, he should have access to my bill. I then
looked at my bill: It's from Washington Gas, no "Gas and Light".
When my wife arrived home shortly after he left, my wife saw a woman
with the same ID at our neighbor's house.

>Is this legit? I get info on gas prices by mail. Seems like a scam
to me, but???

We Have Some Agreement

These comments came to me in response to what I had posted here about Friendship Post Office. While two of the writers didn't suggest I pass on their comments to the entire board, I have removed their names, so hopefully I won't offend or embarrass.

It occurs to me that someone with some computer skills might be able to set up an on-line Petition where we can provide comments along with our names and addresses and eventually forward that to the Postmaster. I wonder if anyone is willing to do this?

I agree completely about the Friendship Post Office. The service and attitudes are appalling. I wrote to the postmaster about the problems last year. In addition to the personnel problems, the building and grounds are among the most poorly maintained properties along Wisconsin Avenue (which include the dismal Pepco facility in the same block as the Friendship Heights Metro).

You are too right. Thank you for addressing the Friendship Heights Post Office issues. Hopefully, your reorganization plan is implemented.

I called the USPS 800 number recently and complained about a particular employee who was verbally abusive to me. The person at the national site with whom I spoke was very apologetic. If others do the same, something might be done. (I don't post to list-serves, so feel free to pass that on)
