Laundry Days

Posted by: "Lisa4news@aol.com" Lisa4news@aol.com

Wed Nov 21, 2007 6:38 am (PST)

I went through some old e-mails tonight and found a silly (in my opinion)
e-mail from someone complaining about a laundry rack outside with underwear and
socks in plain sight. Now, sure, the rack could have been placed in the
back, instead of the front yard. But applaud this rack user's potential concern
for the environment, and that he is not wasting gas or oil energy to dry
items that can use the heat of the sun.

I, for one, have been chided in the past for using two laundry racks for
almost every item (except sheets, not yet anyway). They are in my basement- but
sometimes I wish I had them outside to prove to anyone who looks, or is
driving by, that we each can do our part to make the environment less toxic.
Also- ever wonder why those lint screens are full of lint? That's the material
of your clothing, tearing away ever so effectively inside a dryer. Your
clothes last longer on a rack. Just my two cents. - lisa

area.

She is dependable, thorough, and we recommend her highly.

If you are interested, she can be reached at: 240-669-6877. She would
be happy to provide further references.

MPD - Crime Prevention Through Video

Subject: Transition to Digital TV and Possible Scams

1) Greeting

Hello Members of the District of Columbia,

During the holiday season, we will share with you continuous safety
tips that we would like for you to share with your friends and family
online and verbally. Through the Internet, with help from community
members and activists like you, MPD believes we can "Take a Bite Out
of Crime." With your help, we can reach more than 40,000 online
residents in the District, alone, by the end of the day.

For more information on crime prevention through outreach, please
contact us in the Community Services and Youth Outreach Division,
where we specialize in violence intervention, senior citizen and
clergy outreach, youth and school programs, and community outreach.

3) Message to Residents

As you know, the transition from Analog to Digital TV (DTV) is
approaching. The deadline is set for February 2009, but false rumors
have some residents thinking the deadline is in early 2008. This
brings us to our crime concern- This holiday season, there may be
people attempting to sell televisions to residents who are unaware of
the DTV facts. Not just in this area, but around the country, scams,
from selling cheap TVs that only pick up analog signals, to selling
rocks in a box and selling oven doors as flat-screen TVs will be on
the rise with the news of the DTV transformation if residents are not
tipped off to common holiday scams. Oftentimes, residents,
particularly residents who fear deportation will not report scams. We
urge residents to report all crimes to the police and known criminals
to the police. We also urge residents who will make expensive
electronic purchases to deal with reputable stores.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has created a website and
a DTV Commission to keep you fully informed on the transformation to
Digital TV, which has been called the greatest television breakthrough
since the transformation from Black and White to Color Television.
That website and others are listed below.

Holiday Reminder  --  Smoke  &  CO  Detectors

Posted by: "kathysmithindc" ksmith1804@starpower.net   kathysmithindc

Don't forget to check the batteries on your smoke
and carbon monoxide detectors (CO). A few minutes now
can save your life over the next six months or year.

Winter is the most dangerous time for CO poisoning.
Every year a family dies in their home in this area
from CO poisoning.

Smoke detectors are up there with seat belts for safety.

In parallel to Jenifer Bland's free offer, ie, (a friend who is
looking for a good home for a complete set of 1970 Encyclopedia
Britannicas), I'll precisely match her offer with its identical twin
- anybody know of any individual, group, school, or clan who'd like
two sets? - (as a backup, maybe?) Anyone responding to my offer
will be asked to kindly first check with the contact Jenifer listed.

Didn't know it existed, but there is a site called "freecycle" for those people that want to just get the "stuff" out of the house.

Go to "freecycle.com" put in your Zip code and it will assign the right "freecycle" yahoo group you can join. But be warned, do not accept all mail, since it is a very active site.

Got rid of a piano and other items almost instantly. Plus they pick it up
