More on police cruisers in front of  Best Buy

From: Kathy Smith -- I have sent these comments to Commander
Solberg who said he was interested in this and would look into it.
I urge anyone concerned about this or any other police matter
to email Commander Solberg directly at Andrew.Solberg@dc.gov

He is very professional and discreet.

I don't know if this helps, but my experience is that the police
officers are there during the before and after school hours. With
Wilson, Deal, and Janney all letting out at the same time in the
afternoon, that section of Wisconsin Avenue can get pretty crazy.
I've personally seen fights (with property damage as a result), been
threatened by high school students in front of my children (for asking
them to tone down their language), and witnessed too much shoplifting
from the CVS after school. In the morning, they often patrol the area
to move the truants along. So while I know it's frustrating to see
cruisers illegally parked on Wisconsin, I think it could be in
response to complaints from people like me!

I can appreciate that. However they usually seem to be hanging out
inside the Best Buy store having a good time with the staff. Besides
it seems to be during the late morning, so I'm not at all certain it
has anything to do with the surrounding schools. Actually what I
find most disturbing about all of this, is the fact that I have gotten
a slew of emails directly to my address (bypassing the Yahoo site)
concurring with my observation, but afraid to publicly speak out for
fear of retribution! Perhaps the community and the PD need to
address this.

I always called 311 when I had a group house near me.
The police were there within minutes.

I would no more get up at 1 or 2:00 a.m. to join a
bunch of drunk kids. Bad advice.

FINDING THE OWNER OR MANAGER OF A RENTAL PROPERTY

FINDING THE OWNER OR LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE OF A RENTAL PROPERTY

From: Robert Hyman <robertehyman@gmail.com>

If trying to find the owner or responsible person for a rental
property, go to www.taxpayerservicecenter.com This is the DC Real
Property Tax data base. Type in the address and click on the property
square and lot and it will give you the name and mailing address that
the tax bill goes to. DC law requires that any rental property have a
local managing contact.

What to do with box & styrofoam peanuts

Thank you for all the suggestions.

I usually give the peanuts to the Sur Le Table kitchen shop next to
Paul's Liquor. They have a big hopper in the back which is used to
store the peanuts for packing shipments.

I have found the UPS store (still opposite the post office on Wisc
Ave?) were glad to relieve me of mine. Ditto the store in the old
mini-mall where the new Giant now is - above Strosniders.
Acceptance is established.

Whole Foods and the UPS store and all Mail Boxes stores are happy to
take them if no one will come to pick up.
Good luck.

Failing all else, you can always take them to the UPS store behind the
new Giant on Western Avenue. Jenny.

Suggestions Needed -- animals in attic

From: Aurelia Roman <romana@georgetown.edu>

We would appreciate advise on a very bothersome problem. We live in
American University Park, on Albemarle street in a two level brick
home. We have been in this home since 1972 but we never had this noise
before, noise which does not let us sleep at night. No, it is not
because of students' parties. It seems that squirrels, perhaps even
raccoons are having a ball all night in our attic. How do they get in
there? Is there anything we can do? Does anybody else have this problem?
How long did it take to solve it and how.? Thank you very much for any
helpful suggestions. George and Relly

I suggest your buy or borrow a live trap and humanely put them
outside. You then need to figure out how they are getting in and
plug the hole. There are services that will do this for you.
Perhaps before trying the live trap, take a bottle of ammonia
into the attic, remove the cap and let it sit there. It will
probably drive the animals out. But you still need to plug up
the entrance. Do this during the day. Perhaps they won't even
be inside then. All the better.
