alley abuse

Dear Jo,

The same thing happened to us. When stuff was dumped behind our house we
asked on Communit-E about local haulers and received good recommendations,
because the stuff was too big for Bulk pick-up. Besides Bulk pickup wanted
us to either pull it all into our yard and cut it all down into acceptable
size pieces (some of the stuff was large & metal so this was beyond our
tools PLUS it would have been more than 7 pieces) OR report it as an illegal
dumping. So we could either pay to have someone else's trash hauled away OR
work for hours to cut it down to Bulk pickup requirements (with tools that
we don't have & it would have been WAY more than 7 pieces) OR report it as
an illegal dumping, which it was.

So I called the mayor's hotline and reported it. After all, DC needs to
know that this is happening before any sort of enforcement can be put in
place. Meanwhile, perhaps it would be helpful in the future if we all pay
attention to truck traffic in our alleys. Hard to do with all the high
fences, but chances are that this stuff arrived in a truck & that there was
some noise associated with the dumping process. If only one of your
neighbors had a tag number! While we are on the subject, anyone know whom
should I call if I happen to witness dumping in an alley?

Regards,

Kate

I had one such hole appear mysteriously in my front
lawn this past week as well. No idea where it came from.
