theft from auto..

Just wanted to let people know that someone smashed a window of our
Camry early Mon. morning, and did the same to our neighbors' 2 SUV's
(one of which had an alarm, which didn't go off..). The cars were in
our driveways behind our Van Ness St houses in N.Cleveland
Park/Tenley. There was no apparent attempt at stealing the vehicles
themselves but a few items were stolen including our son's iPod, which
had been "hidden away" in a storage compartment between the front
seats. Fortunately they didn't think to pop the trunk, where a nice
set of golf clubs was sitting ... (they've since been brought inside!)

The policeman hadn't heard about any other similar activity in the
neighborhood, but I just wanted to alert people - not that there's too
much you can do. Except maybe don't leave anything valuable in your
cars...

What does one do with the small propane tanks used to fire up outdoor gas
barbeque grills?

Bagel City Cafe -- Vent and Questions

Is it just me? I can't imagine it is. The proprietors of Bagel City
Cafe seem to be the most unfriendly and have the worst customer
service skills around. This morning I walked in and was literally the
only customer there. I ordered two toasted bagels with cream cheese.
I was handed a number (so as to not be confused with the other non
existent customers there?!?!). After five minutes, someone appeared
from the back, pulled my bagels from the bin and took them in the
back. Five minutes later, I received two untoasted bagels with two
tubs of cream cheese on the side.

I'm not sure why it took ten minutes to slice two bagels, but I
routinely have experiences like this there. And, the owner has the
nerve to post a sign next to his register asking his customers not to
come in in a bad mood. (presumably, because he would like the pleasure
of putting you in a bad mood). I always vow not to go back but they
have no competition in terms of a local bagel shop. Does anyone know
whether they own it/lease it? Or if there's any chance of ever getting
a family friendly, efficent shop in there?

Having recently experienced a similar UPS package misdelivery from
the Immigration Service, (containing somebody's vital awaited
residence information?), and after great difficulty in getting
through by telephone, I'd reached an outfit which I was informed is a
joint endeavor between UPS and USPS (US Postal Service), and that I
should give the misdelivered package to "my letter carrier!"

(There're reasons I didn't walk around our large block - once again -
to deliver it myself. My age, my disposition, and the fact that's
it's a rental house where I've gotten a surly response from an
unshaven, scruffy, just-awakened, thankless grouch at 2:00 PM, as
the post office not infrequently puts letters and an occasional small
packages through my front door addressed to the next block over. QED.)

Next day, I tried to give it to my "letter carrier" who promptly
responded, "Nov Smaz Kapop" - you have to be old enough to remember
that - looking at me as though I were from Mars. Fortunately, the
following day the large brown truck stopped directly across the
street and I ran over and presented the package with an explanation -
the driver also indicating I was from Mars. But he, unlike my
"letter carrier," took what I handed him

It would appear this joint UPS/USPS lash-up ranks up there with the
USA's atomic secrets. Or Congressional/Executive e-mails.

Mysteriously, five days later a USP man knocked on my door to pick up
their misdelivered package. Life goes on.
