Some time between 11 and 11.30pm [on July 22, 2007] an au-pair was
walking home from the bus stop. As she turned into Brookdale Road
she was followed by a large white car - one that once had been a
police car as it had the imprint of the old police decals on the
body. As she reached the corner of Brookdale and Cooper Lane two men
got out of the car and accosted the au-pair, stuck a gun in her waist
and demanded her pocket book and over night bag. She didn't
immediately understand the situation as she couldn't see the gun and
so resisted. One man then put the gun to her forehead so she could
better understand and she gave them everything. The men searched her
pockets to ensure they had taken everything of value and then left.
The au-pair then saw a neighbor walking his dog and went to him for
help. This neighbor was very helpful, calling the police and looking
after her until the police arrived.
This is clearly a dreadful incident and we want to warn our neighbors
to be extra careful especially at night.
