Egged!

Posted by: "KD McLynn" kdmclynn@starpower.net

We were egged last night & a window screen was broken; our neighbors to
either side were hit as well. We found two egg cartons in the alley;
however it looks like less than 2 dozen eggs worth of mess so maybe we were
the last stop or maybe the culprits had terrible aim. Anyone else get egged
or see/hear something suspicious?

Dumping in the alleys

I just saw that yard debris (and maybe other items) were dumped this
weekend in the alleys between the 4600 blocks of Verplanck Pl and
Warren St, and Warren St and Windom Pl. Last week construction debris
was also dumped in the alley between the 4600 blocks of Verplanck and
Warren. Anyone see the culprits?

Beware:  bad floor contractor

I highly discourage people from using Ed's Flooring service. Did a
terrible job on my hardwood floors!! Also wanted to let people know
that the BBB is fairly useless, as is the DC Consumer Resolution Dept
- not sure if that's the correct name, but I believe the acronym is
DCRA. I don't think small claims court is any more helpful, as even
if they make a judgment against a contractor, you still don't get the
settlement unless the contractor is willing to give it to you.

Last call for 2D Awards Banquet on July 12

The 2nd District Citizens Advisory Council is sponsoring an Awards
Banquet on Thursday, July 12th, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, at
Maggiano's Little Italy, 5333 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, in Friendship
Heights, to recognize police officers and civilians who have exhibited
exemplary public safety-related service to the community. There will
be a cash bar - social hour from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, followed by a
four course meal and award presentations. The scheduled keynote
speaker is Jeffrey A. Taylor, the interim U.S. Attorney for the
District of Columbia. Among the expected guests are Mayor Adrian
Fenty and MPD Chief Cathy Lanier.

The event is a wonderful opportunity for members of the community to
get together with the officers in a convivial setting. It also would
be a great opportunity to spend some time together in a relaxed
setting while also showing further support for our officers. The
tickets are $40 per person and may be purchased from me until Sunday
evening, when I must turn in our final head count to Maggiano's. If
you would like to purchase a ticket, please contact me at
nolantutor@yahoo.com, or call me at 244-2620.

We hope you can join us on July 12th!

Samantha Nolan, Chair, 2D MPD CAC

Correction to contractors list

From: Heneson, Lynne (ACF) <lynne.heneson@acf.hhs.gov>

I have a slight correction to make to the list of recommended
contractors. In the category of "Construction", in the paragraph
recommending Mike Smith, the email address is wrong. The email
address is woodsmith@frontiernet.net.

Thanks,

Lynne Heneson

Bad Experience with Wireless Zone

Posted by: "kathysmithindc" ksmith1804@starpower.net   kathysmithindc

From: copingptnr@aol.com

I went to the Wireless Zone in the Mazza Galerie to replace my cell
phone. I got talked into buying a more expensive phone so that the
new one would be compatible with a Bluetooth hands free device, as
required by DC law. The young man there programmed the cell phone and
Bluetooth to be compatible. I had some difficulty with the reception,
but after talking me through it, his opinion was that it would work.
I promptly lost the Bluetooth, a $75 item, and had to purchase
another. Not his fault, but it put me in a bad mood. A week later, I
was still trying to figure out how to operate the Bluetooth. I could
not find a set of instructions, so I returned to Wireless Zone. The
young man was there, but this time I got his assistant. She assured
me that the package should have come with instructions. She opened
another package to show me, but that package had no instructions, nor
did a couple of others. I said I am a kl! utz with learning about new
gizmos, and written instructions really help me. She began to ignore
me, waiting on 2-3 other customers who had come in after me.
Meanwhile, she had the Bluetooth in her own ear, for at least 15
minutes. Last spring, I had a very serious ear infection, and I did
not look forward to picking up another one, but I said nothing about
this. Finally, she produced a set of instructions, but she would not
give it to me. After I asked to speak with the manager, the young man
said he was the manager. I asked who his manager was, and he said he
was his own manager. Finally, the woman ran the instructions through
the copier and gave me - you guessed it - an illegible copy. I still
don't know how to use my new Bluetooth. Everybody says it's easy, but
mine is not working.
