CRIMES IN THE ‘HOOD

**** From: MGBPA@aol.com
Vandals put deep scratches on almost all of the cars in the alley
at the back of the 4200 block of River Road on Monday, August 1
between 3 and 4 PM. Hundreds of dollars worth of damage was
done. Has this happened elsewhere in our area? Please be alert.
If anyone knows anything about this, please share your knowledge
with us. Margaret Beveridge

PANHANDLER INSIDE CHEVY CHASE PAVILION
Tuesday 26 July, my wife and I were inside Chevy Chase Pavilion,
near the Wisconsin & Western entrance. We were approached by a
young man (perhaps in his 30's), casually but neatly dressed slacks
and colorful t-shirt, carrying a red backpack, a rolled-up Amtrak
schedule and a small umbrella.. He approached us and asked if we
spoke Spanish. Our response was a puzzled and questioning look.
As he began his "solicitation" in English, we realized he was a
panhandler. The only part of his story we heard was: "he needed to
get to Amtrak because his son was struck by a car...." Later saw him
near elevator where a service person handed him coins. Unfortunately
there were no Pavilion security personnel around.

RESPONSE TO WATER TESTING QUESTION
From: Daniel & Beverly Yett <turkbook@yahoo.com>
We got the same call, made an appointment with them and
then cancelled since we have a filter for our tap water. When
I spoke to them, they said they were new in the area and were
offering this service so that if potential customers wanted to put
in a filtration system they would be first on the list to be called.
We cancelled also because of their insistence that both family
members be present and that it would take 1-1 ½ hrs, which
means a presentation.

COMMUNITY BULLETIN BOARD

**** From: Alice.Thurston@usdoj.gov
I am looking for a handyman or woman who can remove the
sashes of my wooden, double hung windows, rehang them on
the pulleys and weights (they are currently "sash-packed") and
glaze, prime and paint them. Does anyone have any
recommendations? The job is not rocket science - I have done
work like this myself - but takes patience and time. Thanks for
any thoughts! Alice Thurston

**** From: Joanne Levine <joannelevine@earthlink.net>

DO YOU LIKE A GOOD MURDER MYSTERY?
Several of you were kind enough to point out that this is fiction -
another urban legend. Thanks for setting us straight, but it’s was
fun anyway. – KS
