CRIMES IN THE ‘HOOD

**** From: Edward Cowan <edcowan1114@yahoo.com>
Someone has stolen three or more flags from the 3900 block of
Harrison Street. The thief took them late at night by slipping the
poles out of the brackets afixed to the houses. The police took
my report but have shown no further interest. I suspect that this
crime was "political" in the sense that the thief objected to display
of the flag. (Their monetary or resale value is trivial.) If anyone can
identify a suspect, please get in touch with me or/and MPD District 2.
The theft occurred on or about January 1.

WISCONSIN AVENUE SPRING CLEANUP
Dear neighbors, We know that many of you appreciate the plantings
along Wisconsin avenue, the trees, the park at Fessenden and the beauty
of Tenley Circle. During the year the whole area is maintained by a small
group of members of the Wisconsin Avenue Beautification Project, but
twice a year we ask for more volunteers from the neighborhood to help on
our clean-up days.

Last Fall only two neighbors showed up to help us. Please show your
support and appreciation in a more concrete fashion on April 16! Thank you,
see you on the 16th of April.

ANC 3E will be hosting a neighborhood meeting about
the River Road/Fessenden/45th Street barrier with staff from the
District's Department of Transportation (DDOT). The meeting will
be at 7 PM on Wednesday, April 27, in the student lounge at
Georgetown Day High School, which is at 4200 Davenport Street NW.
We plan for this meeting to be a constructive
conversation about the impact that the barrier has had since it has been up,
and what the appropriate long-term solution ought to be at this
intersection. We have asked DDOT to come prepared to respond to the
issues that have been raised by community members since the barrier has
been up.

NEWS ON TURTLE PARK AND NEW AU PARK WEB SITE
From: Nelson Jacobsen <nelsonjacobsen@yahoo.com>
The Turtle Park work is done for the most part as of
04.06.05. The a couple of trees had to removed and
replaced as well as several additional new trees.
Repairs were also made to the interior of the field
house during this time as well.
The board, of which I am a part of, had many a session
to go over this and the decision was not easy to
remove the two big trees along the entrance. However
they were sick and could fall at anytime.
Now there are a couple of more events that are coming
up for the spring cleaning to MayFair. Please look to
www.aupark.net for calendar goings on in the area.

I was wondering if anyone has any familiarity with how to address
public nuisance violations (primarily by college students temporarily
renting a home) within the neighborhood?
Thanks for your assistance.

[From KS – there was a lot on this in COMMUNIT-E two or three years
ago. I don’t remember which issues, but if you want to go to www.anc3f.org
and look through back issues, there is a lot there on the topic. Can anyone
remember which issues covered this?]

Triple By Pass Cardiac Surgery; How to remove old computers,
answering machines, clothes( The Thrift Shop on P St. in Gtn stopped
taking them a long time ago)
Has anyone who lives in an Apt had any recent success with
donating/disposing of the above mentioned items?.I just had what
was supposed to be a routine repair of my mitral valve, which
obviously found a lot more. Amazing Cardiac team at the Washington
Hospital Center. Did my homework in picking both my new internist
( whose early diagnosis) along with the remarkably gifted surgeon, literally
saved my life. Would be happy to share this info with anyone who needs it.
So the necessary "down time" at home has motivated me to clear out a lot
of stuff.
---------
Also would be willing to do errands for you in the future, as payment in
kind, if you could accommodate me just a few times between now and
April 26th. Many many thanks!! Paull Sargent

**** From: Janine Prader <jprader@verizon.net>
I do not want to receive the DC Examiner, a "free" paper which I have
to recycle. Do anyone have any ideas how to stop this really unwanted
delivery? I tried the web site but did not find anything helpful.
Thank you!
