Wisconsin Avenue Beautification Project
Spring Clean Up
Saturday May 1
1 pm - 6 pm
Celebrate Spring May Day! Join with your neighbors to weed, plant, mulch and
pick up litter along Wisconsin avenue.
We will meet at the Fessenden block ( the park at the corner of Fessenden
street and Wisconsin avenue).

Bring your family and friends, gloves and favorite gardening tools: weeder,
trowel, clippers or strong scissors, rake, broom. Come for the whole afternoon
or just an hour, each minute of work will help make Wisconsin avenue greener
and cleaner.

The Wisconsin Avenue Beautification Project is a partnership effort among
local residents, businesses, and institutions to relandscape Wisconsin Avenue
between Tenley Circle and Fessenden Street.

THEATER ANNOUNCEMENT
Performances of Chekhov's "The Sea Gull" are now under way at the Writer's
Center, 4508 Walsh Street, in Bethesda. This is a production of the
Quotidian Theatre Company, a small local professional company whose
excellent work never seems to be adequately publicized. Performances are
through Sunday May 23: Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m.,
with a special Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. on May 22. For reservations call

The Georgetown Chorale will be presenting its annual Spring Benefit Concert on Saturday,

Visitation School at 35th and Volta, NW. Join us for "Shall We Dance?" featuring, among
other things, the Brahms Liebeslieder Choral Waltzes and the P.D.Q Bach Liebeslieder Polkas.

This seminar will introduce participants to the essential tools needed to
start and sustain a business in the District of Columbia. Topics to be
discussed: writing a business plan, market analysis, business licensure, and funding
sources for small businesses.

THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS 2004 SUMMER INTERNSHIP

The Library of Congress, the world’s largest and most
comprehensive library, is seeking motivated college students for
a 10-week summer internship working with one of the Library’s
high-priority projects. Access – Preservation – Born Digital
– Capturing and disseminating digital works – Intellectual
Property Rights – all of these are issues facing the 21st century
library. These internships will provide specialized training,
mentors, discussions, workshops and the opportunity to shadow
managers and specialists involved with “hot” library programs.
Interns will be multi-tasking on work assignments in programs
such as the Veterans History Project, the emerging National
Audio-Visual Conservation Center scheduled to open in
Culpeper, VA in 2006, the Library’s award-winning educational
web sites, our strategic information-management initiatives,
inventorying undiscovered parts of the Library’s collections, and
other meaningful work experiences that will introduce students
to the Library’s mission and operations.

Internship Program
Interns will work full time (40 hours per week) for 10 weeks
starting on June 7th and ending on August 13th. Interns
must prepare a written product and/or written report at
the end of the internship.

Students are encouraged to work
collaboratively with their schools to provide them with three
(3) academic college credits for the successful completion of the
program.

Interns will attend workshops, shadow mentors, and receive
invaluable, hands on training in a wide variety of fields.
Relevant areas of study include: information technology,
history, the arts and photography (for conservation),
sociology and anthropology (for the Veteran’s History
Project), library science, foreign languages, education,
management and accounting.

Interns will receive a stipend of $1,500. Interns are not
employees of the Library of Congress and are not eligible for
Federal Employee bene.ts and privileges.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens currently enrolled in a
degree-granting program of study at an accredited institution
of higher learning at the undergraduate (college, university,
or Tribal College) or graduate levels.
