HAVE YOU HAD THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM OR KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS SITUATION?
Lately a lot of stealing has been going in the neighborhood (3700-3800
block of Albemarle St). Someone is going around stealing flags from
houses and stole large Christmas decorations. Eight flags were stolen
over time from one house. Someone also damaged a tree in the front yard
of a house on the 3700 block.

There is suspicion that the thefts and damage is being done by a
resident (possibly several) of the 3600 block of Alton Street. This same
individual has been associated with graffiti and other vandalism in the
area.

If you have had a problem with theft or vandalism or know anything about
these situations or this individual(s), please send your information to
Captain Anthony Poteat
(Apoteat@aol.com) and Lieutenant Mark Carter (MPDCPSA202@netscape.net).
If you'd like to send me a copy, I'll make sure that it reached Captain
Poteat and Lt. Carter.

COMMENTS REGARDING HOMELESS BEING DROPPED OFF

**** From: Anji Henderson <vual7@yahoo.com>
Well I know that Montgomery County is only required to attempt pick up
homeless if there is a winter storm warning or below freezing weather...
I would assume if they took the people out of there area that they would
either drop them back or give them bus tokens to get back to the
"natural" area...

It has peeked my curiosity I shall e-mail a friend of mine that works at
a homeless help center in the district..

**** From: "kayandpaul" <kayandpaul@erols.com>
I suggest you call the Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship
Place, 364-1419.  They do have contact with the DC, and the police about
such things, and drive around picking up homeless people every evening.

I realize a lot of folks are new to this.  So, let me know if you have

[TENLEYTOWN] LOCAL RESIDENTS HOT ON THE TRAIL OF PURSE SNATCHER
From: "buddydc1" <buddydc1@msn.com>
Reply-To:  tenleytown@yahoogroups.com
In today's Washington Post there is a story about the purse snatcher
who has been active in the Friendship Hts/Chevy Chase area.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A40696-2002Jan13.html
"They say she hits unattended handbags at churches and schools in Chevy
Chase, both in the District and Maryland, then uses stolen credit cards
and checkbooks to race through thousands of dollars in posh spending."

your newsletter.

Does  anyone know of a good, reliable and properly priced
reupholsterer/slipcovering person? I have a particularly nice sofa that
I'd hate to part with, but have painted the room. Thanks.

**** From: Dennis Beaufort and Kathryn Ray <kcrdlb@bellatlantic.net>
I  recommend Ecker's Clock and Watch Repair located at 8010 Norfolk
Ave., Bethesda, 301-652-0549.  Mr. Ecker retired, but the young man who
took over has repaired several antique watches for me.  It doesn't
happen quickly, but he does very good work.

**** From: "Hager, Todd" <THager@broadpointtech.com>
We would like to know if your readers know of a careful, loving,
responsible nanny who is looking for part-time work.  We are two
families in the Tenley/North Cleveland Park neighborhood who plan to
share a nanny to care for two 2 1/2 year old girls.  Our needs are for
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8am to 6pm, starting in as soon as
possible with some driving required (we live near the metro and will
provide the car, if necessary).  Thanks.

Could I ask the community for recommendations for two services that I
have not seen included?
---- Window Replacements!  We need both type of window and installer
recommendations.
---- Photographer!  We would like to have professional photos of our
kids done soon.

IF THE STREET LIGHTS GO OUT
Street lights were out for over a week in North Woodley Park. The event
was chronicalled by Sally MacDonald, Sn3macd@aol.com in
themail@dcwatch.com. In the item she listed several  names and phone
numbers to call when this happens. They are:
The City-DPW engineers, Mr. Jama Abdi (671-2710) and Mr. Mike Dorsey
(671-2829).
Mr. Charles Dickerson (872-5470) of Pepco Customer Operations.
For a single streetlight repair, call the DC nighttime number, 269-0855.
That is Unity  Construction, subcontractors who do a superb job!

During that time I understand the 2D police did an extra special job of
patrolling the area, using their top lights to let residents know they
were in the area.
