WHEREAS, the University of the District of Columbia, the only public university in the District, is a major public institution located in the neighborhood of ANC 3F with a ten-building physical plant in this neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, UDC is an urban federal land-grant university with concomitant teaching, research and public service obligations, including operation of the District's Extension Service; and
WHEREAS, a strong, well-managed UDC focused on academic excellence, training, research and public service to meet priority needs in the District is very much in the interest of individual students and potential students, faculty, neighborhood, and the District as a whole; and
WHEREAS, adequate resources for operations, maintenance and the capital program and adequate support and encouragement by the governing Board of Trustees and the entire UDC community and by all levels of government (together with the private and charitable sectors) are vital to UDC's success in carrying out its mission and preserving and enhancing its plant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED at a duly noticed public business meeting on March 13, 2000, with a quorum present, THAT this Advisory Neighborhood Commission 3F urges the UDC Trustees, the DC Council, the Mayor, the Control Board and the Congress to assure adequate financial resources and oversight for FY 2001 for UDC.
