WHEREAS, fire protection and ambulance service are essential to every resident and neighborhood and to the District as a whole, and
WHEREAS, it is in the interest of all citizens that the District's fire fighters enjoy full support and confidence of their government and community, including but not limited to budgetary support, and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, DC Council, Control Board and Congress have begun to rebuild the Fire Department under Chief Tibbett's leadership; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor has proposed an Operating Budget of about $118 million for the Department in FY 2001 (an increase of $6 million over FY 2000) and a Capital Budget of $7~A million in FY 2001 for equipment (an increase of $4.3 million);
NOW, THEREFORE, ANC 3F urges the Mayor, the DC Council, the Control
Board and the Congress to continue and strengthen their support of our
Fire Department's and fire fighters including all necessary measures to
provide and maintain excellent equipment, training and supplies to
the fire fighters, including a modern and effective fleet,
raise all Fire Department buildings up to the highest standards,
assure a force at a safe staffing level, and demand and reward effectiveness
throughout the Fire Department.
Adopted March 13, 2000, at a duly noticed regular business meeting with
a quorum of the seven commissioners present by a vote of 6-0-1.
